How to Assist Flood Victims in South Carolina
Thursday, October 08, 2015

South Carolina is dealing with the aftermath of the historic flooding last weekend. The state is in need of help. SPX FLOW, Inc. will be collecting much needed items such as bottled water, gift cards, first-aid supplies, cleaning supplies, non-perishable (canned) food items, sleeping bags, etc. Park in the visitor's section and leave items at the front desk from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Wednesday, October 14. Donations will be delivered to a shelter in Columbia, SC.

The American Red Cross is working diligently to provide shelter, safety, and clean water for families. In some areas where flood waters have receded, the Red Cross is distributing relief items such as comfort kits containing personal hygiene items as well as cleaning supplies.

You can help flood victims by donating to the disaster relief or giving blood. Over 50 blood drives have been canceled in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia due to the flooding. All eligible donors in parts of the country unaffected by flooding are encouraged to call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit to schedule an appointment. Donors can also use the Red Cross Blood Donor App, which is free and available for download now.

Ballantyne Charlotte Chamber Meeting
Thursday, October 01, 2015

The Ballantyne Chapter of the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce met on October 1 and enjoyed a presentation on Leadership Lessons: Best Practices in Negotiating, Selling and Communicating by guest speaker Michael Reddington. Reddington is the Vice President of Executive Education at Wicklander, Zulawski & Associates and Certified Forensic Interviewer.

Reddington encouraged attendees to use a strategic process to effectively communicate with others. "What someone says to you is not nearly as important as how they say it." When explaining tips on how to successfully reach goals, Reddington gave clear examples to which everyone could relate. "When you're trying to reduce resistance, justify what you hear. For instance, if someone says I'm not sure if this is worth the price, let them know about the benefits of investing."
